"Small but FURIOUS"

Well this was the storm on radar. I was bored and needed to pick up some lottery tickets so I figured I head out. I delayed and delayed until I looked out my window when the storm was closer and some sort sort of weird looking cloud. Sort of like a boundary, but highly elevated. Sorry no pics, was in a rush to leave LOL.

In about 3 minutes I was north of my house at a local mall and the rain started to lighten up but the sky immediately got very dark. The eastern winds also picked up, went from about 10km/h up to 25km/h. I looked up and saw all this scud just racing NE towards the core of the storm which was very dark.

The weird boundary type thing crept east slowly but the clouds under it were moving! Still just don't do it justice. Within a few moments there was a CG off to my north and then the rain really died down to light drizzle. It was about this point in time when I realized... hmm, sw side of convection, rapid advection of air north... hey this is the rfb or flanking line. Yeah took about 10 minutes before I figure that out.

About 5 minutes later this lowering formed and the winds quickly switched to westerly winds. This was very odd since the sfc flow from the low itself was actually easterly. Right away I realized this was a direct product of the storm environment. Even though everything was severely elevated and the sfc air was a balmy 15C, the damn thing was actually trying to go sfc based.
v2.jpg (23806 bytes)
The lowering quickly began to rotate and sfc based air just fed in. The suction was unbelievable for the storm. Radar showed a crappy little cell but this thing was cooking. At about this time there was a small horizontal funnel off screen that I thought I was filming. Will remember to look through the view finder next time LOL. I can't say for sure but I think this was an elevated wall cloud I was looking at.
v3.jpg (23351 bytes)
Just south of the suspected wall cloud, there was another active area with little shear funnels popping up every 20 seconds or so and lasting about 10 - 40 seconds. These things were just racing into the suspected wall cloud. In the vid cap above you can see one slightly obscured by some scud (center right).

This image gives a much better idea of what I was seeing. Clearly now you can see the wall cloud type impression it gave me. The rain core was just off to the NE of the lowering. Man this stuff was really cooking! The vid caps just don't do it justice!

I followed the storm a little farther on it's ENE track but eventually lost it and some rain from the convection further SW crept in and obscured everything. This was the last image I got before heading home. The actual crazy cloud motion was to the north of this area, this was a depression marking the edge of the flanking line, there were no more convective clouds south the depression.
