"Pop Up Outflow Storms"
|
Well it all started just after 3:30 when the cells really start to get going and were running North of the GTA. My cousin and myself were rushing up Bathurst street to get out of the city ASAP. |

When on the Allan north it was another battle of direction. Should we take the 401 to 404 or take the 400 to Major Mack. I ultimately won the debate. |

I had totally forgot in the process that it was early rush hour and we were soon slowed to a 50km/h pace and were forced to literally yell at people to start driving. Finally 1 lane became free and all was moving well until some guy jumped in from the right lane and slowed us to a crawl of 80km/h. At this point I was gonna get out and kill him! |

While still heading east some anvil debris was seen our way. |

We finally made it to the 404 and raced North to play catch up with the storm which was already north of Stouffville. |

Nearing Stouffville road. The cell by this time was well NE so we really had to push it. |

At this point we were getting prepared for some heavy precip and it was pretty dark but even so drizzle was all that was falling. |

We were actually on the western flank of the storm at this time and it was much farther north than estimated so we actually ran right to the end of the 404 and were forced to turn around. |

Heading south again we knew it was impossible to catch the storm we were after but I was instant to get some pics. So we exited at hwy 9. |

That was when this amazing low level meso appeared. Although hard to see since the cloud base was so dark there was clear slow rotation at the base that was well defined however the outflow which had caused it to rotate also was cutting it off, so we decided to follow the outflow boundary and see if anything else would fire. |

That's where the base of the wall cloud was. Look above and compare then you should be able to see it. |

While heading west along the outflow on hwy 9 storms did fire. |

As we were driving towards this developing cell we passed through the precipitation swath from the parent cell which dropped an amazing amount of rain that was still present 20 minutes later after it had passed this area. |

We watched the cell get organized and followed the 400 south through King City.. |

It was clearly well defined and did have a very flat base. Lightning was also present within the cell and there was a cg. |
![]() |
Shortly after the cell began to die and we gave up and headed home. |
![]() |
Heh.. rush hour when we start rush hour when we end.. |
![]() |
Not a bad cell at its peak. |

Can see some overshooting tops here. |
